How to make bootscovers for cosplay

In my old post, i have provide the way to wrap shoes, and today, i just wanna talk about the bootscovers making in cosplay:

Steps for non-strechy method:

1.Prepare a pair of shoes/boots which have the shape of sole/heel/front that you like firstly.

2.Get some muslin/cheap fabric, then cut them into two pieces, which matches the rough size of the already finished shoes/boots.Leave some extra for the next seam allowance in case.

3.Put on your shoes/boots,choose one piece of the finished fabric and place it on either side of your leg. Then begin to pin, making necessart seams down the front and back.Be sure that the seams must be straight and the fabric fits for your leg exactly(unless you’re making an oversized boot).Once you’ve got the correct boot shape, use a pen to mark where the seams are on both sides, also remember to mark where the bottom of cover to be.Then pins can be removed.

4.The muslin is a goodpattern for your good fabric, and you can just do a mirror image for the other leg directly.

5.For the bottom, one method is to turn under the edges, then glue or sew it to the shoe. You have to use some non-slip materials for the permanent bottom cover,or a removable cover may slip into like a sock.Stand on a piece of muslin then trace around the bottom of the shoe to make the bottom piece, then cut out with seam allowance.Next, sew to the bottom of your bootcover, matching up seamlines.Bottom pieces will work better for shoes that don’t have separate heels, for those complicate matters really greatly. For heel-shoes,you can leave a hole in the cover for the heel to go through,or redesign the shape of the heel, including it as a part of the cover.

Holding the cover on with elastic which goes under the shoe is another way,but this isn’t secure enough, and don’t forget to stiffen the bottom edge in case it doesn’t gape open or flip up.

Steps for stretchy method:

The first few steps of the non-stretchy descriptions are also available, but prepare some scrap stretch material or good spandex instead.Pin like the same way,but make sure to stretch the fabric over the leg so your finished cover won’t be loose.A zipper is not needed in the back,so you have to sew both seams. For the bottom, many makers do a sole piece in order to create it as a sock over the shoe, but you could also make it permanent. You can get some Shoe Goop or Barge at a shoe repair store when glueing fabric or pleather to shoes.A curved needle is essential when sewing things to shoes.

Thanx to sarcasm for this artilce. :)
